Born in the Seattle area, Terry Crane has been avidly practicing, performing and teaching circus arts since 2002. He graduated from Oberlin College and was subsequently accepted at L'Ecole Nationale de Cirque (ENC) in Montreal, where he studied aerial rope, clown, physical theater and various circus arts for three-and-a-half years. After graduating from ENC, he pursued further training at the Beijing International Acrobatics School and No-Fit State Circus in the UK.

In 2012 Terry launched Acrobatic Conundrum. Terry believes in the model of cooperation and the philosophy of embracing one’s own uniqueness, both of which are present in circus performance.

Arne Bystrom was born with a circus soul. At six years old he played a clown in a short play created with his younger sister and two friends. Little did he know that he had tapped into a timeless calling and would be making a living performing circus in the street three decades later.

Arne graduated from the professional circus program at École de Cirque de Québec in Quebec City, where he met his colleagues in the acrobatic quartet 4Stomp, with whom he's been performing on streets and stages internationally since 2016.

These days he spends a good deal of his time maintaining and touring on a sailboat in Greece which, on the good days, connects musicians and circus folk with the people of the Greek Isles, and on the other days teaches him to cultivate a healthy relationship with entropy.

Arne is passionate about lifelong learning, physical storytelling, and poetic living. He is very excited to be performing in another Acrobatic Conundrum creation after bringing “The Way Out” to the Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival in 2014.

Jill Marissa has dedicated herself to exploring movement in some form or another for most of her life. She competed as a gymnast in Oregon for 6 years and then went on to receive a degree in Dance from Hunter College in NYC. On moving to Seattle in 2007, she was introduced to the circus world through SANCA, Heather Whinnen, and Lara Paxton of The Aerialistas. In 2009, she co-founded ticktock dance (before TikTok!) with collaborators Elizabeth Rose and Bridget Gunning, a performance company fusing deconstructed circus with contemporary dance. With ticktock, she helped direct 2 evening-length works and several vignettes to sold-out performances in Seattle, Chicago, New Orleans, and NYC.

Since then, she has performed internationally including contracts with Madrid’s Teatro Circo Price and Germany’s Friedrichsbau Variete, and regionally with the UpUpUp Crane Truck Circus, The Acrobatic Conundrum, Valtesse, and The Bellingham Circus Guild, to name a few.

Her Drag King alter-ego Manny Manstands is currently the reigning Mr. Hollywood Burlesque 2025 title holder and can be found nearly every Sunday hamming it up as a cast member of Mimosa’s Cabaret.

By far the craziest trick she has attempted to date is being a mother, which she practices daily.

They began their circus journey under the guidance of Lingít/Athabascan aerialist and artist, Crystal Worl (@crystalworl on insta), who taught Mercury in the first six years of their aerial training in an often frigid, but incredibly welcoming rock climbing gym on Lingít Aaní in Juneau Alaska. Mercury moved down to Duwamish land, aka Seattle, in the summer of '21 to pursue circus full time. Since then they have had the privilege to learn from incredible aerialists (including Terry Crane and Ivanna Wei), perform locally at corporate events and showcases, and coach the best students. They also manage the Every Body Circus program at SANCA, which means that they get to nurture and coach classes for students of different abilities and underserved populations, including a gender affirming circus class and a class for students with mobility differences. They are constantly in awe of the strength, determination, humor, and wit of their students. Mercury recognizes that they are part of a handing down of knowledge from one artist to the next. They stand on the shoulders of giants (figuratively, but often also literally, their acro bases are sometimes quite tall), and will happily middle a three high so the next person can reach higher (again, figuratively, literally if they have good spotters).
